Tanada Owners Program

  • Jointly run by Kamogawa City & Oyama Senmaida program provides annual “ownership” of a rice paddy.
  • Owners participate in events during the growing season:
    • Briefing session
    • Rice planting
    • Mowing (x5)
    • Rice harvest
    • Threshing
    • Harvest festival
  • Owners have an exclusively assigned paddy
  • Owners receive a rice equivalent to the size of their paddy
  • Local farmers manage the terraces in between events

Applications for the Tanada Owners Program are open in November – January; selection is by lottery if there are more applicants than paddies; the program runs March-October. Cost is ~32,000 yen per 100 sqm of paddy. Paddy sizes vary.

Sake Owners Program

  • Sake Owners grow rice that is made into sake at a local brewery.
  • Owners participate in events through the year:
    • Briefing session
    • Rice planting
    • Mowing (x1)
    • Rice harvesting
    • Label and cup crafting
    • Sake brewery tour
    • Sake tasting
  • Owners receive three 1800 ml bottles of sake made with their rice.

Applications for the Sake Owners Program are open in November – January; the program begins in April. Cost is 15,000 yen.

Farming Trusts

Trusts are shared farming projects where the work is done in communal fields and harvest is split equally among participants. Each trust program focuses on a different crop and the products that can be made from it

Soybean Trust

Trustees grow the beans that make miso and soy sauce. Participants join in planting, mowing and harvesting. Each participant receives an equal share of the harvest. Trustees may choose to receive soybeans or miso. Participation fee is 5,000 yen.

Indigo & Cotton Trust

Trustees grow cotton and indigo and enjoy workshops on spinning, weaving, and dyeing. Harvest is split equally among participants. Participation fee is 15,000 yen.

Rice Trust

Trustees work together to grow rice in fields owned by retired local farmers. Trustees share the harvest. Participation fee is 32,000 yen.
